2. What do we need to know? Does research in mathematics education address the concerns of practitioners and policy makers? Panel: Moderator + 4 speakers (researchers) – 1 œ hours

This Plenary arose from the suggestion that the conference might provide a mechanism whereby a panel of presenters would address questions posted to a designated website by practitioners and policy makers prior to the conference. The intention was to explore the possibility that the research agenda in mathematics education was not actually addressing those issues of concern to practitioners or policy makers, or that existing research, which might address their concerns, has not been disseminated effectively. Moreover, the panel might want to address the fact that research is not (yet?) in position to answer all the questions arising from the needs of practitioners and policy makers.

The report of the first IPC meeting said, “The plenary session will be prepared using questions posted in internet by policy makers and practitioners six months in advance.” The plenary was intended to offer a new channel of communication between researchers in mathematics education and policy makers and practitioners. The plenary has the potential to give policy makers and practitioners a voice in influencing the research agenda in mathematics education, while also identifying inadequacies in the way in which existing mathematics education research has been disseminated to those who might make use of it. The presenters would be chosen to span a range of research areas relevant to the sort of questions or issues likely to be raised by policy makers and practitioners.

Presentations by panel members will be prepared using questions posted on the internet by policy makers and practitioners six months in advance of the conference. Each presenter will report on the extent to which research exists to address the stated concerns of practitioners and policy makers, making clear those questions and issues for which the existing research base is inadequate.

  Bueno... Me huele a que esta es una tarea para el Sorprendente Drupal. ¿Cómo? Bueno... la recepción de estos comentarios es muy similar a recibir comentarios en un post cualquiera (digamos, de blog o algo por el estilo). Estos comentarios, claro, deben ser visibles únicamente para quien dictamine/controle este trabajo, pero cualquiera debe poder enviarlos (incluso sin tenerse que registrar como usuario - Siguiendo el formato que nos envía Edgar Abuelo por correo, ahí mismo piden el nombre de cada participación). Claro, el comité debe estar consciente de que no hubo filtrado previo, que reciben un volcado de dudas sobre Internet, sin garantía de que las haya mandado alguien serio - pero si entiendo correctamente, esa es su chamba... Ahora, si entiendo correctamente el funcionamiento de Drupal, el planteamiento y punto de contacto del este grupo (la página base de la plenaria, pues) puede ser un nodo que tenga algunos archivos relacionados, de modo que puedan publicar fácilmente los documentos relacionados. ¿Cómo la ve nuestro pecoso experto en Drupal? ¿O me aviento otro hack? (en caso de aventármelo yo, quisiera clavarme un poco más a entender los detalles de cómo debe ser la interacción... Probablemente tú digas lo mismo, ¿no?)
