Dear Marcela,
Looking at the expanded ICME-11 website, with the
addition of the TSGs and DGs pages, I suddenly
noticed one aspect which should have struck me
earlier, but that I just did not "see" before:
the absence of the ICMI logo from your website!
(As the ICMI logo was adopted just prior to
ICME-10, it did not appear on their website, or
in the 1st and 2nd Announcements of ICME-10 ---
it appeared first in the Programme booklet.)
I regret I did not stress that point in earlier
discussions, but I believe it may be appropriate
to try to include it in your website --- without
harming your beautiful design, it goes without
saying!
I realise my comments may be a bit annoying for
you, as they are arriving after the conception of
your website. I am sorry for that. But I trust
you will understand that I see as important to
have ICMI visually represented by its logo --
again without introducing prejudice to your
design and to your own logo.
So let me present you with a double suggestion.
1-) First I would suggest, as was done for
ICME-10, to add in the section "About the
Congress" (ICME-11 homepage) a sentence stating
that ICME-11 is organised under the auspices of
ICMI. (Such a sentence appears in your 1st
announcement, but I did not locate it directly on
your website --- sorry if I have missed it). I
would also suggest that the name of the
commission there be used as an hyperlink to the
ICMI website.
2-) As regards the introduction of ICMI logo
per se, I see two possibilities, (but maybe your
site designer would have better ideas):
2a-) Inside (or close) to the paragraph where you
would add the above sentence (item 1), just put
the logo. Or
2b-) Add a new item at the end of your
right-hand column (very nice and useful, by the
way). This item would be named "ICMI" and under
the bar there would be the ICMI logo, with the
words "International Commission on Mathematical
Instruction". Clicking on these words would
again lead to the ICMI website.
Suggestion 2a is lighter, in the sense that the
ICMI logo would be visible only on your homepage
-- which is fine for me. Solution 2b would make
the ICMI logo always visible on all your pages.
Also fine, but I clearly do not insist on that.
At any rate I believe a major criterion would be
the quality of the design: your webpages are
really beautiful and whatever solution would be
introduced should respect that.
Very best wishes,
Bernard
PS: I would also invite you to examine how to
integrate the ICMI logo in your second
announcement.
